The new coronavirus pandemic has us all locked away in our homes, practicing “social distancing”. It’s an essential tool to contain the spread of the virus. I’ve also noticed the strange effect it has on creativity.
If you can afford to stay at home, this time is great if you want to be creative. But the fact that you’re home all day also has a strangely lulling effect. The urgency to work is no longer there. At least, that’s how I feel about it.
For weeks, I’ve been planning on undertaking a short writing project that would be labour-intensive but ultimately very cool if I actually finished it. Before I didn’t have the time; now I do, and I have no motivation.
Maybe this is just because I’m not used to working from home. I think I just need to buckle down and do it, perhaps setting a schedule for myself. I did end up finishing one chapter of another project though, so that’s something!
Hopefully I’ll find a way to make use of this time productively.
Meanwhile, we should ALL follow safety measures. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, don’t touch your face, practice social distancing, and contact a healthcare professional if you’re feeling sick. We can combat this pandemic together.
